Why are we helping?

Challenge Farm is a ten acre farm located near Kitale, Kenya.    It is home to over 100 children. Prior to coming to Challenge Farm, they lived on the streets where their lives were filled with violence, drugs, broken relationships, and broken promises.

They lived with no responsibilities, no boundaries, and no direction.  They were addicted as much to aimlessness and lack of direction as they were to sniffing glue and kerosene.  They lived in a world without love or hope- no reason to live.

Challenge Farm offers these children a place to find acceptance, love, and purpose for their lives.

Coast Community Church in Gulf Breeze, Florida has a longstanding relationship with Challenge farm and has sent many short-term groups to provide physical labor and construction expertise, as well as working directly with the children.

In today’s dismal economy, all charities are feeling the strain of reduced financial support.  None is feeling this more than Challenge Farm.  It is critical that this facility increase its income during this time.

In addition to simply having enough food to feed the children, all these programs are at stake:

  • Home for 103 abandoned and orphaned street children
  • Residential drug detox and rehabilitation center
  • Working farm which grows corn (a food staple in Kenya) and other crops in addition to producing milk and with the goal of becoming self-sustaining
  • Vocational training center
  • Community resource center for women and children which teaches literacy, parenting skills and self-sufficiency
  • Center for Royal Family Kids’ Camps in Kenya, an international ministry for abused, neglected and abandoned children focused on providing fun, safety and positive memories in a Christian environment
